Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a neurotoxin produced from Clostridium Botulinum bacteria and is widely used in the treatment of facial wrinkles and excessive sweating problems, especially in the aesthetic field. By blocking the communication between muscles and nerves, it temporarily stops wrinkle-forming muscle movements and excessive sweating. The effect of Botox usually lasts between 4-6 months and this process may vary depending on personal factors.

How does Botox work?

Botox works by blocking nerve conduction between the muscles and sweat glands. Normally, nerves stimulate muscles and sweat glands through electrical conduction. However, when Botox is administered, only the release of conduction substances in the injected area is blocked. Thus, by creating a blockage in that area, wrinkles and excessive sweating caused by the muscles are prevented. Botox is mainly effective on "dynamic wrinkles" caused by mimic muscles. Over time, these actively working muscles lead to distinct wrinkles on the skin and genetic predisposition can also affect this process. Botox temporarily immobilizes these mimic muscles and thus reduces wrinkles in a specific area. However, this effect is limited to the area of application and does not have a systemic effect.

For what purpose is Botox applied?

Botox application is most commonly used for the removal of wrinkles on the face, to eliminate teeth clenching at night and related discomforts and in the treatment of underarm sweating.  With Botox application, it is possible to completely remove the dynamic lines caused by constantly active mimic muscles and settled on the face over the years. In addition, it is also possible to correct the lines that have not yet settled on the facial area, but which have become prominent due to constantly active mimic muscle movements, without deepening. In addition, sweat glands are blocked with Botox application and excessive sweating is eliminated.

Treatment of Facial Wrinkles with Botox

The facial area has a particularly thin and sensitive skin structure, and this area is subject to wrinkles and sagging over time due to the effect of constantly working mimic muscles. As we age and under the influence of various negative factors, visible wrinkles and lines form on this delicate skin, especially in areas where muscle activity is intense, such as around the eyes, forehead and lips. These wrinkles make the person look older and sometimes more irritable or anxious.

Excessive Sweating Treatment with Botox

Another area of use of Botox is the treatment of excessive sweating. Excessive sweating in the armpit area, which creates problems especially in social and business life, can be controlled with Botox application. Botox reduces the activity of sweat glands by blocking the transmission between sweat glands and nerve endings. On average, it provides control of sweating between 10-12 months after the first application and this period can be extended with regular applications.
